May Day Rally was held ahead of Korean Presidential Election

The 127th anniversary of May Day was held in the city center on May 1st 2017. More than 30,000 workers from around the country, including 20,000 in Seoul metropolitan area, attended in the rally.

The Korean Confederation of Trade Unions (KCTU) urged the government to accept the key demand such as 10,000 won (about $8.8) for  Minimum Wage, Trade Union Rights for All, Abolish precarious works, Break Down the Chaebol (conglomerate) Centered Economic System..

Sharan Burrow, General Secretery of International Trade Unions Confederation (ITUC) sent a solidarity message to the KCTU's members. She said "we will fight to rewrite the rule of global economy", Han Sang-gyun, president of KCTU, will be released soon."

The members of Korean Government Employees' union (KGEU) also participated in the rally. They have been demanding the government to legalise the KGEU and reintate 136 dismissal civil servant workers.
